I think it was largely created in 1981 on the Strip by bands like Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, etc. So, I began re-ordering a list based on preference, influence, how big of a hit and whatnot to produce this list.Īs an aside, I define hair metal as a combination of look (yes, look had something to do with it) and a blending of pop and metal. I compiled more than 1000 “hair metal” songs on my iPod and learned a few years ago that you could easily shuffle them around without the computer. I grew up in the ’80′s addicted to so-called “hair metal” and even worked on the Sunset Strip from 1989-1991. I’ve promised it forever and here it is–the Top 500 Hair Metal Songs of All-Time.
